Artist's Statement
My work is a kind of narrative about the universe as I experience it. It is cartoon-influenced, yet painterly. The most obvious stylistic influences are the scenes of everyday life seen in Medieval manuscripts and early Renaissance art, with dashes of Latin american Fantastic Realism, Surrealism and Underground Comix. I have a conviction of the kinship of all things without an anthrocentric prejudice.
I believe that my work belongs to a certain genre of satire and commentary on the Human Condition with such artists as Hogarth, Daumier, Goya and Grosz. I'm inspired by things I've experienced first-hand, current and historical events, and my own dreams.
As a Mexican friend said to me, "When you see what humans do, you have to laugh, or you would be crying all the time".
