Phyloxera Crosses the Pyrenees - 2001 - 11”x13” acrylic gouache on panel
From an article I read - In Napoleonic times, aphids carrying the Phyloxera virus decimated the French
wine grapes, then did the same in Spain. A vision popped into my head of an army of aphids crossing the
Pyrenees like that J.L. David painting of the young Napoleon at the head of his troops.
