Closing Day at th Mustang Ranch - 1999 - 23”x31” acrylic gouache on panel
In 1999, the State of Nevada closed down the famous brothel. A wonderful article in
the LA Times described the girls teetering out to their cars in spike heels, spandex minis,
and paper bags over their heads (Yes! Really!). They left under the watchful eyes of
police and a little knot of mournful men. This is the image that popped into my head,
and I could not resist.
