Baile de Chupacabras y Calaveras - 1997 - 16”x20” acrylic gouache on panel
Inspired by the 19th C. images by J.G. Posada of dancing, drinking and carousing skeletons. Including
the chupacabras (goatsucker), the Latin American vampire, was my own idea. At the time I was living in Sonora,
Mexico, many people used the chupacabras to represent anyone that overdid it with anything; blood, drink,
drugs, money, power, religion, food, etc. This painting is a personal favorite- when I look at it, I can hear
Norteño music.
